The Social Media App Parler

Free speech' social media platform Parler is a hit among Trump supporters, but experts say it won't last - ABC News

This weeks article looks back at the social media app that took the country by storm back in January, Parler. According to Wall Street Journal, Parlor is still attempting to make its way back onto the Apple app store, but to no avail.

Parler took the country by storm due to its sudden rise in popularity following former President Trump's Twitter account being banned from the site itself. Parler also gained a lot of attention due to the fact that many threats were being posted that dealt with the riot of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C. back in January.

Parler shows some of the worst aspects of this new age of media in today's American political sphere. It shows how divisive and dangerous social media can be due to its insane amounts of connectivity through multiple different platforms. If one group does not like how a social media site is operating, then they can switch to hundreds of other options. Parler is just the beginning for allowing extremist organizations to plan and execute issues that they see fit for American politics, and that is extremely dangerous.

  1. Thank you for this informative post, Dylan! As someone who considered themselves fairly aware and engaged when it comes to politics. This was went totally over my head in terms of me not hearing about it or maybe it's just lost on me due to the how long its been. Either way this is valuable information that everyone should know.
