Donald Trump and His Next Move on Social Media

Image
This weeks article looks at the next possible step in Donald Trump's attempt for reelection in 2024 if that is indeed still his plan. Trump has been in talks with many different apps in hopes for their help to create an all new social media platform. Trump wants this to be his social media platform where he will undoubtedly post and say whatever he wants on it. According to the article, an app titled FreeSpace is Trumps front runner at the moment.  I understand that Trump feels he was cheated in the election and then kicked off of social media, but this is only going to make matters worse. Yes, Trump has a committed fan base and they will follow him to any social media app he uses, even his own created social media app but is this a good or bad thing? In my opinion, it is a bad thing as I feel that it will create a greater divide on who uses what social media apps for their news. The creation of a new social media app just for Trump supporters is going to c...

The Social Media App Parler

Image
This weeks article looks back at the social media app that took the country by storm back in January, Parler. According to Wall Street Journal, Parlor is still attempting to make its way back onto the Apple app store, but to no avail.  Parler took the country by storm due to its sudden rise in popularity following former President Trump's Twitter account being banned from the site itself. Parler also gained a lot of attention due to the fact that many threats were being posted that dealt with the riot of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C. back in January.  Parler shows some of the worst aspects of this new age of media in today's American political sphere. It shows how divisive and dangerous social media can be due to its insane amounts of connectivity through multiple different platforms. If one group does not like how a social media site is operating, then they can switch to hundreds of other options. Parler is just the beginning for allowing extremis...

According to this weeks article based on PEW research responses from 9,200 Americans, 71% of the participants said that they use social media apps to receive some of their news. The article then goes further and looks at specific apps, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and more. According to this weeks article, Facebook is the leader when it comes to individuals receiving their news from there. 36% of adults (that took part in the survey) that are Facebook users regularly get their news from the site, while 68% said that they just use the site. For other social media apps, Twitter has 15% who regularly get their news from the site and 25% just use it. For Instagram the numbers were 11% to 40%, and this number difference does not surprise me since Instagram is mostly just pictures. For YouTube the numbers were 23% to 74% respectively.  The numbers from this article ar...
