Social Media and the J&J Vaccine

Image
For this week I wanted to look into the recent debacle regarding the J&J vaccine over the past two weeks. If you have not heard, the J&J covid vaccine were halted due to a number of cases that caused blood clots, which was all women if I am correct. This issue created a lot of talk around social media about how safe these covid vaccines really are, and that is okay. However, this weeks article points out the issues that this J&J covid vaccine caused on social media once the news of it being halted came out. This weeks article goes over how there was a massive conspiracy theory posted about the J&J vaccine onto the popular social media site Facebook. This conspiracy theory was posted by an account called Anomaly that describes how the pandemic is a government project designed for civilian control. If this sounds familiar, its because it is a massive aspect of the Q-anon conspiracy theory that is still being widely talked about (this theory is dwindling...

James O'Keefe and Project Veritas on Twitter

Image
This weeks topic is a very interesting one indeed. This weeks article looks at the news regarding the recently leaked video of CNN technical director Charlie Chester revealing damning information about CNN and how they handled the presidency of Donald Trump. If you have not seen the video, I will break it down for you and I will also try to provide a link to the video if I am able to find it. Essentially, an undercover video of Charlie Chester showed the man himself admitting that the major news network CNN was creating false narratives about Donald Trump with the hopes of causing him to lose his run during the 2020 Presidential campaign against Joe Biden. Charlie Chester goes on to state that "fear sells" and that that is one of the main reasons they promoted false stories about the health of Donald Trump and much more. I have also provided an article that looks further into this groundbreaking story that just happened a few days ago.  Regardless of what side of the p...

Social Media and Vaccination Cards

Image
This weeks article looks into a recent issue that has popped up on social media sites, which is the premature posting of ones Covid-19 vaccination cards. The reason that this issue is such a big deal is because it can make individuals more susceptible to identification fraud since the vaccination cards themselves contain the individuals name, date of birth, as well as the individuals immunization chart. Of course citizens receiving their vaccinations should be excited and happy that this is our first true step towards being back at regular life, however it is never a good idea to post ones personal info on the internet (especially social media) where millions of potential individuals can see your personal information.  Hopefully no one reading this post has committed this dangerous act and I encourage anyone who has received their vaccination cards to keep it private! Donald Trump and His Next Move on Social Media

Image
This weeks article looks at the next possible step in Donald Trump's attempt for reelection in 2024 if that is indeed still his plan. Trump has been in talks with many different apps in hopes for their help to create an all new social media platform. Trump wants this to be his social media platform where he will undoubtedly post and say whatever he wants on it. According to the article, an app titled FreeSpace is Trumps front runner at the moment.  I understand that Trump feels he was cheated in the election and then kicked off of social media, but this is only going to make matters worse. Yes, Trump has a committed fan base and they will follow him to any social media app he uses, even his own created social media app but is this a good or bad thing? In my opinion, it is a bad thing as I feel that it will create a greater divide on who uses what social media apps for their news. The creation of a new social media app just for Trump supporters is going to c...

The Social Media App Parler

Image
This weeks article looks back at the social media app that took the country by storm back in January, Parler. According to Wall Street Journal, Parlor is still attempting to make its way back onto the Apple app store, but to no avail.  Parler took the country by storm due to its sudden rise in popularity following former President Trump's Twitter account being banned from the site itself. Parler also gained a lot of attention due to the fact that many threats were being posted that dealt with the riot of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C. back in January.  Parler shows some of the worst aspects of this new age of media in today's American political sphere. It shows how divisive and dangerous social media can be due to its insane amounts of connectivity through multiple different platforms. If one group does not like how a social media site is operating, then they can switch to hundreds of other options. Parler is just the beginning for allowing extremis...

How Many Americans Receive Their News from Social Media Apps?

Image
This weeks article goes further into the effects of social media on today's American political sphere. According to this weeks article based on PEW research responses from 9,200 Americans, 71% of the participants said that they use social media apps to receive some of their news. The article then goes further and looks at specific apps, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and more. According to this weeks article, Facebook is the leader when it comes to individuals receiving their news from there. 36% of adults (that took part in the survey) that are Facebook users regularly get their news from the site, while 68% said that they just use the site. For other social media apps, Twitter has 15% who regularly get their news from the site and 25% just use it. For Instagram the numbers were 11% to 40%, and this number difference does not surprise me since Instagram is mostly just pictures. For YouTube the numbers were 23% to 74% respectively.  The numbers from this article ar...

Social Media and Political Campaigns

Image
This weeks article goes over how social media has effected the way political campaigns are approached and handled in a digital society. The article goes on to lists how social media has changed political campaigns which are: increased participation in the process, increased voter turnout, gave resurgence to issue voters, and more. It is no question that with the ever growing popularity of social media that political processes would be effected. It is now impossible to run for a seat in government (especially higher level) and not be talked about on social media. It is increasingly harder for politicians to stay out of the public eye compared to before the rise of social media.  It is also true that social media has created increased turnout as well as registration. This is one impact of social media on politics that is extremely positive as we need more people going out and voting and being active in our countries political sphere. The resurgence of issue voters can be...
